Ciao! We have been here one week today! Seems like we've been here ages. Today we went to the Worthy house. Jenae went with Charlie, Cortney, Micah, and Emma to the mall to ge groceries for the Tennessee team that comes in Friday morning. I went with Grace and Mrs. Kim to Cristmas Alley so Mrs. Kim could get a few nativities. I ended up buying one myself, and a air of ray-bans for 6 euros for next week when the team is here cause we'll be in the streets all day long. Other than that we hung out at the Worthy house today. Allessia and Ben aka Bubba are a little under the weather at the moment so keep them in your prayers. Tomorrow isa major work day, and Friday morning we must get the hostel (campground where the team will be stayin) ready for their arrival mid Friday morning, then we hit the ground running and dont stop til they leave on Saturday. Please keep the Tennessee group in your prayers as they travel, and as we all go out in the cty of Naples, there are many toe reached here.
Ciao!

Day 6
Ciao! Its 1 June 2010 here in Italia. Being the first of the month, we set out this morning to buy our monthly metro ticket...they were out of them at Dante, so we bought 90 min passes and went to meet Ellie and Kayla. They showed us the oddities of the apartment we will soon be calling home. We walked to the casa shoppe = house shop and bought cleaning things for the apartment. We then went to the SISA and got groceries for lunch. Kayla cooked lunch. We had some amazing pasta! We then walked down to Vanvitelli to get monthly passes from the station there. Ellie put us back on the metro and we headed back to Cortney's apartment. I took a nap while Jenae watched a movie. Then we walked to the supermarket to get things for supper, and we cooked our own supper without blowing up their apartment, I was very proud of us! Now we shall hang out tonight and chill, hopefully skype people from home. Tomorrow is a work at the Worthy house, cause the Tennessee team comes in Friday I'm super excited I cant wait to see what God has in store for that week! Ciao!!

Day 4 and 5
Ciao!!
Day 4 was a Sunday! It was our first church service in Italy. Everything was in Italian so I just had independant Bible study from Hebrews. After church, as typical with Baptist Churches, we stood around and chatted with the members. A couple attemped to talk to us in English, the were super nice, and an old lady gave me my first authenic Italiano gretting....kisses on both cheeks...how cute!! We then went to eat at a place where the Worthy family and Cortney normally eat, we had our first plate of Yoki, a type of pasta. Jenae headed home to rest, while went to the Worthy house to help Charlie with the stuff for the Tenn team that comes in on Friday. We made them Rome packets, and their week booklets with the schedule and things they need to know while in Italia. We worked on these all afternoon. Jenae and Cortney came over and we ate supper from the Monde Pizzeria down the road. Jenae and I then took the metro back to Dante and slept at Cortney's by ourselves. While on our way to get the pizza for supper Charlie told us that here they treat dogs like children and thats why the dogs are so relaxed because they are pampered and catered to.
The next morning, today, we woke up at 5:30 am to go meet Charlie, Ellie, and Kayla for our day trip to the Amalfi coast. We went to get on the metro and the booth to buy the ticket from the lady was closed cause it was too early and all the machines were out of order...so we just kinda walked through the open gate, they didnt stop us. We left for the coast in Charlie's van -- "loser cruiser". The roads to get there were the windiest roads I have ever seen, like almost every turn was a 90* angle, so very soon I was car sick. Once we got to the small towns along the coast, although I still felt pretty bad, it was amazing! Each of the towns was speciic to selling a certain thing, one town was linen, another handmade paper, and another ceramics. People come from all over to see these things that they have beenmaking for centuries. I bought a reciepe book and two reciepes (one in English and one in Italian) in the town tha specialized in handmade paper. I also bought a ceamic pitcher and address tiles in the town that specialized in ceramic. It rained on and off all day, even storming on us occasionally, even through all that today was my favorite day so far.For lunch we ate at a nice resturant on the shore, right on the beach. I ordered spaghetti al ragu...which is spaghetti in meat sauce, but here they use like a roast meat as their meat in the sauce. After lunch I walked down to the beach and took picures there, their beaches are so different...instead of sand they have tiny little pebbles all over. We saw alot of crew ships and tons of tourists, but my favorite site was the lemon groves all over the hiles lining the coast. Some of the lemons we saw were easily as bg as our heads!!! We stopped at a litte place on the side of the road for a bathroom and cafe (coffee) break. They made freshly squeezed orange juice there, I ordered some and it was easily the best orange juice I have ever tasted, it was filled with pulp. While driving Charlie told us the story of how Pompey was destroyed by Mt. Vesuvius....this is the story:
On September 19, 1979, Mt. Veuvius blew. At the time there were 20,000 people living in Pompey. After the eruption there was estimated to be about 2,000 survivors. When the volcano blew it sent up a column of volcanic ash/lava straight into the air. This column continued to build up on itself. Meanwhile boulder size pieces were falling from the volcano, bombarding Pompey like a pirate's attack. Also while this is occuring smaller pieces like hail is pelting Pompey. These pieces are starting fires which are ruining the city. Eventually the column collapses on itself and one town (cant think of the name) is destroyed within milliseconds. A cloud of ash then hovers above Pompey for two days dropping roughly a foot of ash/soot per hour. After two days roughly 50 feet of the ash has accumulated. The ash has stopped life in Pompey and preserved it just as it was that day. Everything was carbonized: people, buildings, food, everything. It remains that way today, being the only city like it. During this time whole families lived together so when the volcano blew it knocked out whole lineages, and even those 2,000 that did survive after a few generations they were gone and hardly remembered as well. The survivors wanted to get as far away from the volcano as possible because of the devestation it had caused, so they climbed over the mountain and settled in the hills and reside there today.
Charlie also pointed out some caves that still house cave dwellers. Once we made it back to Napoli we came back to the apartment and took a nap. Me and Jenae took ourselves out alone to get pizza and gelato, and had a successful trip!! NOw time for movie night and bed! Ciao!

Day 3
Ciao!! Today was day three of our mission. We went with Paul to the supermarket and learned how to shop. We learned that you dont touch the fruit or veggies without putting a glove on your hand, pretty smart idea...catch up America!! While in line there was an older couple behind us, they started asking us to move outta the way so they could move further up in the line, but the place was so packed andwe were sandwiched in between people that there was no where for us to go. Once we checked out the cashier had ran out of change and we had to wait for Paul t get his change. The older man that was in the line behind us checked out, then the man after him. In Italiano supermarkets there are dividers where two customers can bag their grocries at one time, to speed the process along. Well the man behind us and the one behind him were both bagging groceries when the one behind us started yelling at the other one to move outta his way. The guy was doing nothing wrong, poor guy, but they had their hands going and everything = our first Italian heated argument. We then went to Paul and McKenzie's house to eat lunch = pasta with mozzerella (which comes fresh, which means the cheese is in water when you buy it) and tomatoes. We then took the train back to Montesanto to meet Grace. Grace took us down to the piers and we walked around down there, had the best heart to heart talk and saw the most besutiful of architechure, including a theater and the Brandi (the place where the first real pizza was made---wanna know te history behind the name of the first pizza ask me! We then went to the Worthy (missionary) house and hung out witht the kids and helped a little with preperations for the Tennessee team. We ate supper there = salad and Spanish tortillas. We then went to get gelato and I ordered my own in ITALIANO! i was very proud of myself! We are now back at the apartment, getting ready for bed!

Italy!
Ciao! Sorry its taken me this long to get on here and upate you guys, its just been busy hectic since we got here. We arrived Wednesday night at 9:30 pm and came to Cortney's, showered, and crashed. Thursday the team had a meeting so we hung out at the Worthy house. We didnt do much that day, but hang out with the kids, Alesia, Benjamin, Emma, and Micah. They are adorable!!! We had our first REALpizza last night as well, just let me say after working at a pizza parlor for two years...this beats all i'll ever tasted. Today we went to the castle with Cortney, then the cameo store. We ate at a sidewalk cafe, where you STAND to eat!!! crazy huh, but common. the lady there got on to us cause we didnt finish our food and insisted that we take it home. We then made our way to the supermarket to buy berries, and in order to touch the fruit and veggies you first have to put a glove on OR they yell at you...lol. We then made our way t the Worthy house, and picked up Emma and Micah from school. Italian school is very LOUD and all the moms stand around in little clusters talking very very loudly. When the kids come out the parents take their bookbags and carry them for them, come on Americn parents pick up the slack ;). ONe of Shannon's friends told me and Jenae that we should go to the beach, cause we are too white. She then told Jenae that she could pass for an Italian, but me no not at all. We went back to the Worthy house and meet Emily. We took the metro with her to her and Jason's apartment. On our way we stopped at the corner barber shop while Emma, Micah, and Cortney where getting their hair cut. In order to tell the barber how short he was allowed to cut it Charlie placed a piece of tape on the kids back. We continued on our way to go get Jason. We then took every metro, line, and train around the city in order to learn how to navigate ourselves on our own. We also earned that Emily has NO sense of direction, like Jenae. We went back to the Worthy house to meet Cortney. Charlie and I then walked down to SISA to get flour tortilas and yogrt greco. We then stopped at a coffee/bar and had something that sounded like coffee normal. We then went to the bancodinapoli, Charlie needed cash. We then stopped at a gelato store to pick some up for dessert with the blackberry cobbler. We returned to the Worthy house, and Jenae and I played with the children while Shannon and Cortney cooked supper. Once supper was done we ate and had a legit movie night!!! The movie choice was Planet 51 and supper was chicken and pineapple quesadillas, black beans in yogurt greco, and chips. We then helped get the girls ready for bed. Once they were tucked in we went and cut nametags and placed them in lanyards, for the Tennessee team coming in two weeks! We rode the metro back to Cortneys, and now we are exhausted!!
